To mark its 120th anniversary, PETER/LACKE has set itself a goal: together with partner companies, it aims to stop 120 tonnes of plastic waste before it reaches the ocean. We are taking part in the initiative and are financing the collection and processing of 500 kilograms of plastic waste from the Assi River in Varanasi, India. This corresponds to around 83,333 plastic bags.
500 kilograms of plastic waste – our contribution to the anniversary campaign
Our contribution covers 500 kilograms of plastic waste from the Assi River, a tributary of the Ganges in Varanasi, India. Through our participation, we are financing the local collection of the waste and its subsequent processing.
The impact certificate issued by Plastic Fischer documents our contribution and confirms that the corresponding amount of plastic waste has been recovered from rivers. The certificate states July 2026 as the delivery period.
Plastic Fischer handles implementation on site
To carry out the measures, PETER/LACKE is working with the Cologne-based social enterprise Plastic Fischer. The certified B Corporation intercepts plastic waste in rivers using floating barriers known as TrashBooms, before it is carried further downstream and potentially reaches the ocean. At its own material recovery facilities in India, the collected waste is dried, sorted and processed: recyclable plastics are reintroduced into the supply chain, while non-recyclable materials are used for co-processing in cement plants, where they replace fossil fuels.
According to Plastic Fischer, the collected waste is processed in an environmentally sound manner, in line with international best practices. A digital tracking system independently records and verifies every kilogram, making the amount of waste stated in the certificate traceable.
